ABOUT US
MISSION & HISTORY.
The John Wheat Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable organization created to give active combat, disabled United States veterans the opportunity to learn to fly fish, tie flies, and experience the majestic Colorado rivers year-round.
Our expert guides take disabled veterans and their families on a day-long rafting trip complete with all the necessary gear, apparel, and meals. Adaptive equipment will be provided for any participants who require specialized gear. While some outfitters would shy away from fishing in Colorado during the colder months, our experienced guides fish 12 months of the year.
We use the term Foundation in our organization’s name because we are founded on the principles of ending post-military service suicides by getting disabled veterans back into nature, learning new skills, and having the support and camaraderie of one another.
While other non-profit organizations with similar missions and vision statements exist, The John Wheat Foundation's rehabilitation efforts are specific to the beautiful state of Colorado.
